My Question or Issue

I recently got a new desktop computer installed with Windows 11. I found the system volume always adjusted automatically up to the max (100) every time I switch to Spotify from other programs. And when I switch back to other programs, the volume will be changed to the former level (usually set as 10) .

I don't think this issue was due to the devices or the settings, as this only happens when I was running desktop Spotify on Windows 11. Also this never happens when running on my old laptop with Windows 10. I've tried reinstalled Spotify but nothing changes.

This type of issue when the app is not working well after an OS update is usually related to some damaged cache stored from previous versions. We understand you’ve already tried some troubleshooting steps including reinstalling, however; we'd recommend performing a clean reinstall of the app by following the steps in this article (in case you haven't done it before).

This is often an overlooked step, but it's more thorough than a quick reinstall and can be helpful in getting rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

If the issue persists, would you mind including the Spotify version you're currently running? This will give us a better look at the issue to continue investigating.

Hi there,

Thanks for replying. But I assume somehow you misunderstood. This volume issue happened on my brand new Windows 11 PC when I installed Spotify app for the first time. Therefore I don't think it's the previous cache causing the issue.

Despite this, I still followed the clean reinstall steps in the link and unfortunately the issue persists. The version I'm running is Spotify for Windows 1.1.97.962.g24733a46.

Thanks for getting back to us!

This sounds a bit odd and we'll do our best to help you out here. Have you tried changing the sound settings on the desktop app? Could you try switching the Audio Normalization on the desktop app off or on if not off already? Here you can find helpful tips on how to do this.

Did this bring change? Can you also check your Windows sound settings when you right click the sound icon in the taskbar and choose Open Volume mixer to see if the sound of Spotify is synced with the system's sound?

It is also worth trying to reproduce the issue with a different account and share the results with us.

Let us know how it goes.

Hello again,

I have tried troubleshooting through the steps you gave.

The Audio Normalization Switch was on by default. I first tried switching it off but this didn't bring change. Then I tried switching it on again, which also didn't seem effective.

I also tried logging in with a different free account. Things remained the same.

Through all the troubleshooting steps I was checking the sound level with Volume mixer all the time. For example, I usually set my system's sound as 10. It showed whenever Spotify was in the foreground, the system's sound would change to the maximum 100 immediately. After that I tried adjusting the system's sound back to 5 on manual to check if the sound of Spotify was actually out of sync.

And I found when any other program (Chrome, system settings, etc) was switched to the foreground, which implyed Spotify was in the background, the system's sound would change back to the former number 10. If Spotify was in the foreground again, the sound level would explode to 100 in the meantime.

I really hope this could be solved. Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks for all your support and replys. I think I finally figured out what's going on... I realized I recently changed the Aura Sync Setting of my motherboard. The sound was set to 100 by this Aura situation setting when Spotify ran in the foreground. After I deleted this setting this issue didn't appear any more.

when ever i open Spotify on my pc and hit play on a song with it at half volume it defaults to max volume sound till you move the volume slider a tiny bit to fix the sound. im hoping there's a fix for this soon

Windows app is stuck on max volume

Every time I open the app the volume is maxed. Moving the slider doesn't work at all unless it is at 0%, and then sometimes it mutes it. I have reinstalled it multiple times but it hasn't worked.

When I switch speakers, Spotify turns the volume to maximum. This happens when I switch to my Logitech L207 or Logitech PRO X Gaming Headset. The sound is so loud that it hurts my ears, and Spotify becomes unusable. Complete reinstalling didn't help.

I have noticed that Spotify volume resets to max every time I change input source on Win10. Volume slider doesn't change but volume does. I have headphones and external audio card (both USB) which I switch many times per day depending on which I prefer to use for listening. This issue started a couple days ago and only on Spotify.

This occurs on two different Win10 machines, PC and laptop.

Changing input source back and forth between say laptop speakers and headphones causes volume to be set to max

Spotify occasionally sets the volume back to full, making it extremely loud

After leaving spotify paused for a while and opened in the background, unpausing it causes it to blast the music at full volume. Only after changing the volume again does it recognize the volume level it is set to and play at the correct volume.

For some reason this stopped occuring a couple of days ago. Maybe it was Windows problem.
