Local files folder not appearing

I have enabled Local files in the settings and i have several mp3 files in the selected folder. I also tried resetting the Spotify app ,wonder if it needs spotify premium to access this function.

I don’t have the option to add sources under local files anymore

Hi there @NyciavonKriztorvz,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for reaching out!

Have you tried moving the files to another directory and adding it as a source instead? It's also worth resetting the app's preferences by following the steps below:

Open Spotify and make sure it’s running in the background.
Open the Task Manager in Windows and switch to the Details tab.
Locate the process Spotify.exe, right-click it and select Open file location to open the Spotify folder.
There you'll find a file called prefs, which holds info about the currently logged in account. Simply delete it.
While in the Spotify folder, you'll also find a Users folder. Open it and delete its contents as well.
Restart the Spotify app.

Note that you'll be logged out and your settings will be reset, so you'll have to adjust them again. Your library will not be affected, so no worries there.

@Draco2, you can try a clean reinstall of the app to see if that does the trick.

Unfortunately I couldn't locate any of the files or folders you mentioned, probably because the Microsoft store version of spotify is bugged or some sorts?

I'm not sure, but I was forced to do some tinkering in order to access the folder containing the spotify.exe as it was revealed that default Windows users have no access to the folder Used to contain Apps installed via Microsoft Store (Its another Microsoft issue I guess).

So I uninstalled the Microsoft Store version and installed via SpotifySetup.exe.

Btw I couldn't help noticing that your official install application has neither Installation Address Designation nor does it possess End User Agreement, which is odd and quite frankly unwelcomed (at least from my standards).

So I booted up the *new* Spotify and logged in, still, with the exact same settings as shown in the screen shots above, no Local Folder.

I did what you have instructed, glad that this time I did find pref and User folder, but nothing changed, I tried moving the files to another folder and adding them in Spotify again and it failed as expected.

Do you have any other files that you can try this out with? Something else that comes to mind is changing the files' metadata in Windows or with another third party software. Make sure also that the files aren’t DRM-protected.

It seemed that these two music files themselves are problematic.

First of all, all the properties (composer/copyright/composed date etc) are left blank, even the line defining whether its protected or not (since normal files will state have a value in the protection line in the properties details). It could be accessed via Microsoft Media Player, but all other music softwares playing the file shows mistaken length/lyrics(despite being an instrumental music).

When I import other music files that have normal properties the problem solved.
