I have the same issue on Windows 11. After a few hours of listening, Spotify starts using ~400Mbps up and down for a total of 800Mbps. Music is playing but network is unreasonably busy. The only "fix" is to restart spotify. I even let it run for several minutes, thinking it would resolve it self but it did not.

Plan

Premium

Country

Denmark

Device

Desktop

Operating System

Windows 11

My Question or Issue
I'm not sure how to phrase the title of this post. But this is as accurate as I can describe it.

But I wanted to see if anyone but me has experienced this? And if yes, how did you solve it?

I mainly use Spotify to listen to music while working. And after X amount of time, the Internet is getting "blocked". Music is still running, however, I'm certain that has something to do with caching.

This happened to me a couple of times, and a reboot "solved" it, I guess. Until I opened my task manager one day and saw Spotify using up half of my bandwidth. I have a 1000/1000 Mbit connection, and Spotify was bubbling around at 500 Mbit/s. So I closed Spotify and voila, internet was unblocked.

So my initial thought was that maybe Spotify is using too much bandwidth including overhead, etc. So I purchased NetLimiter and put a very light limit on Spotify at 10 Mbit/s.

This doesn't seem to work, though. Even at 10 Mbit/s, Spotify still seems to crash my internet. And I'm not able to trigger this manually. It never happens before the first hour, and then sporadically throughout the day.

My next idea is to see if Spotify exceeds the TCP/IP connection limit in Windows - and if so, why? Because I'm out of ideas at this point.

You are not the only one having this issue as I am as well. It started today with me, it crashes my internet after I try to play any song. So I rebooted my modem and router, got back online reinstalled Spotify, tried again and it crashed my internet entirely requiring rebooting everything. Ridiculous this is happening especially if youre a paying customer.

I have tried removing Spotify by the root with Reva Uninstaller, which removes any trace of the app including the registry.

I even tried installing an older version of Spotify and disabled updates, because my logic thought it might have something to do with a recent update. Same issue.

I then tried removing Spotify again (same method) and installing the Microsoft Store app. Same issue.

At this point, I'm not sure what else to try. I can't seem to intercept the problem and isolate it with any software I own. Maybe someone from CS or tech support could be of assistance where to look further?

Thanks for your replies.

To further narrow down the possible cause, can you please check if the same happens when logged into a different account?

Let us know how it goes.

Hey folks,

Thanks for your replies.

In order to report this to the relevant team, we'd need the following:

Your OS version and exact Spotify version.

A screenshot of the data used by the Spotify app.

The last date and time the issue occurred (including your time zone).

Please share any of the above info that you haven't so far so we can start the investigation.

Cheers!
