Spotify sound so quiet all of a sudden (Win 11)

Issue:

All of the sudden my Spotify sound in my speaker is quiet. Normally my volume is only at 20% in the application, now with that volume I cant hear my music anymore and even at 100% it still very low. If I use the Spotify web player, the sound is much better and it is loud at 25% volume. It is only happening in the spotify App, I don't have problems with the other applications.

Workaround I did which didn't solve my problem:

1. Adjusted the Audio Quality > Volume level

2. PC's own volume controls with Spotify is at 100%

3. Streaming quality is at Very High. Tried selecting the other options still not fixed

4. Switching on and off the Auto Adjust quality

5. Adjusted the equalizer

6. Turning off the Normalize Volume

7. Tried different account

8. Clear cache

9. Reinstall my Audio Driver and check any windows update

10. Reinstall my spotify app

I listed out all of my workaround I did, I hope I get a different workaround as I check and I saw many people are encountering this issue. If there is already a solved solution please link it to me. Thank you!

Hey @norland4298,

Thanks for reaching out and great troubleshooting so far!
There's a few more things we can try to hopefully resolve this issue:

Try disabling the Hardware Acceleration setting (upper left corner dots -> Help -> Troubleshooting);
Look for any Spotify entries in the hosts file and remove them;
Try deleting the prefs file as shown here;
Try disabling Exclusive mode (Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound > Sound Control Panel -> Playback tab, then right-click your audio output device and select Properties. Switch to the Advanced tab and untick "Exclusive Mode" + "Enable audio enhancements");
Temporarily disable any additional sound enhancing apps;
Perform a complete clean reinstall of the app as shown here. At the last step, install the Spotify app from either the Microsoft app store or from our website. Try installing the version you don't currently have.

If none of this helps, let us know what your app version is and if the issue appears only with your Edifier speaker or when you start the playback via any other speaker/ headset or the PC itself.

Hi @Vasil,

Unfortunately none of them works. There is one thing that there is a significant changes in the output volume, I was able to find some old version in the internet which is version - 1.1.86.857.g3751ee08. There is some increase in the output volume but it is being auto updated to the latest version when I shutdown or restart my computer which is 1.2.52.442.g01893f92.

Maybe I'll just wait for the new update and check if it will fix my issue. Thanks

I have the same issue my app was great for the longest time then a few nights ago it went quiet. I turned the volume up but it's still very quiet so I have been using it on Chrome. I have tried all the fixes listed above nothing is making any difference like I said it was fine but then it just randomly changed yet all my settings were the same.

I have the exact same issue and thought it was my speakers that were broken (they are 30 years old, but very high quality).

After extensive testing, I found out that it is only happening in the Spotify app and not my speakers at all. Maybe you guys need to do a rollback. The app is now so quiet, that it takes a lot of effort just to get some bass out of the songs

The same issue has been going on for a while. It's been bothering me for months with that issue and the issue of the volume temporarily maxing out when connecting to pc or audio.

I've had this problem on and off for at least a month. One day it was fixed, probably after an update or patch. It's broken again now. I've tried pretty much everything you tried with no luck. At one point it was fixed by an update then broke again. I was able to fix it then for awhile by resetting the network adapter, although this solution isn't fixing it for me anymore.

Right click the WIFI symbol in the bottom left on the toolbar -> diagnose -> select the restart WIFI network adapter tab.

I may have found a solution. If you go to system -> sound -> select your speakers near the top under output -> spatial sound under advanced settings -> windows sonic for headphones. Seems to have fixed it for me. Quite strange!

Ok, I have found a fix. These are the steps to fix it (Windows 10 but I guess it works for 11):

Open the Spotify app and play something (this is important!)
Open Sound preferences in Settings
Scroll to "Advanced Sound Options" and click on "App volume and device preferences"
Provided you followed step #1, you will see the individual volumes of every app playing something now
Turn up the volume for the Spotify app (mine was set to 5 out of 100)

I don't know why the volume was so low. My guess is that there is some kind of shortcut that puts the volume down for each app, idk

I tried this by enabling the spatial sound under advanced settings, I observe that there is a slight increase in the sound output.

Incase anyone wants to try this method and your Spatial Sound is greyed out. You can try by disabling the Mono Audio and you can now enable your Spatial Sound.

My Question or Issue

Recently I've noticed that my usual spotify volume level set in the scaling slider is not what it used to be, while at 100% it is very loud (as expected) my usual 40-60% is very quiet.

I've tested and compared the volume levels to other audio sources (e.g. youtube) and I've found that while at 100% spotify desktop produces the same volume level, yet at lower % it is much quiter. Youtube at 50% feels like it's almost double the volume as 50% spotify.

I am definitely not wrong on this issue. As a sotware developer and hobby audio engineer I am 100% sure something changed in the way audio level scale algorithm is working in the recent patches, probably went from somewhat linear to something more logarithmic.

Likewise, I noticed for mine, it happened after an update a few months back, then another update it was back to normal again, then yet again ANOTHER update and it's back to being messed up. I use the Spotify app on my desktop so I tried the web browser and it works perfectly fine with where I normally have my volume slider, so it's definitely something going wrong somewhere within the Spotify app

Yes, same here. I have a Dell XPS 9310 running Windows 11. I've tried all of the above except reinstalling the Spotify app. Honestly, why bother with a reinstall when everyone else tried it and it doesn't work. We are in our mid 70's and get together with friends to play ballroom music for dance. It's very frustrating when you can't hear what you are dancing to. I'm ready to give up paying for Spotify. I have music on my laptop which I can play loudly thru Windows Media Player or You Tube Music. Spotify needs to fix this soon and stop giving out complicated "try and see if it works ideas. "

I've been having this problem too since December. And i somehow managed to fix it while checking out all the replies in this post. Here's what a i did:

- Make sure you're playing something on spotify and lower the volume (I had mine at around half/50%)

- Go to your system settings > Sound > Output (select where your audio output is)
- Scroll down to Advanced Settings > Audio Enhancements then select Device Default Effects

- Spatial Sound > Windows Sonic for Headphones (make sure your Mono audio is turned off)

Then it should work by now (at least for me). There's a huge difference

Hey guys I just found a setting for like "normalize volume: set all songs to the same level" and also pro eardrum tip, TURN THE VOLUME DOWN FIRST

This helped me when nothing else in this thread did.

Spotify could you either STOP or TELL US like jesus.
