Hello, and thank you for the suggestion!

Unfortunately, after doing this, it didn't help...

However, in case anybody else ever runs into this issue -- I have since discovered that this also causes Youtube to stop playing after a few seconds, in the exact same manner. This leads me to believe that it's a new issue with Voicemeeter -- or at least, if it is some sort of anti-piracy feature that's auto-pausing playback because it detects Voicemeeter as a recording device, then it might be something I need to seek help from Voicemeeter from.

Hi, I'm having a recurring problem.

I use the program Voicemeeter to manage my computer's audio. Yesterday, Spotify began refusing to resume playback so long as I have Voicemeeter open.

I press the play button, Spotify plays for a few moments, then pauses.
This happens even if I play Spotify elsewhere (e.g., on my Android phone, or on another computer), so long as I have Spotify and Voicemeeter open on my desktop.

For clarity, I have been using Voicemeeter and Spotify together (relatively) without issue for years at this point.

I believe that Spotify thinks I am trying to stream/pirate audio when I have Voicemeeter open, and is pausing itself. Does anyone know why this has happened now?

Hey @Salrith,

That's frustrating!

Could you confirm if Voicemeeter input is set as the default device in Windows? If not, follow the steps below to see if that fixes the issue!

Right-click on the volume icon in your tray and click on "Sound Settings".

Then scroll down to Advanced and click on "More sound settings".

Go to the recording tab, right-click on your Voicemeeter input device, and set it as the default device.

Restart Spotify

Let me know if this helps!

Cheers,

If anyone ever comes here looking for the solution and finds this post, what worked for me after much troubleshooting: my Bluetooth speaker being connected to my computer apparently counts as some kind of streaming and causes pausing. If you have a problem like this, look to see if you have any Bluetooth connections you can terminate!
