I've looked for hours and nothing works.

Interestingly, when spotify opens in the browser, I am logged in with with my premium account, but it also has a button/link to "install app". It is already installed though.

Please help and thank you!!!

Hi there @simsebas,

Thanks for reaching out. We'll gladly help you share music freely.

When you open a link, is there no prompt to open it within the app? What do you see exactly? On a different note, where is the app you're using installed from, the Microsoft store or the Spotify website? Whichever it is, try uninstalling with these steps and then reinstall from the alternate source.

Let us know how it goes.

thank you!

This finally did the trick.

Uninstalled. Searched C: hard drive for spotify and deleted everything i was able to find. (culprit was maybe a spotify/firefox profile). Restarted PC and then installed from Windows app store.

Links are finally opening up in app again and not the browser.

Same problem on MAC. Absolutely no prompt for opening the app. this is just in Firefox, If I open a link in Opera it pops up. I need to restart Firefox (135.0.1 ) but it worked a few weeks back when I copied the link to a text document. Now it's just prompting me to login and if I login it's prompting me to install. So the only thing I can think it's some thing that changed within the last update either to Spotify or Firefox.

This is not a solution. I reinstalled it on windows 10 (directly from spotify, not the windows app store) according to the steps provided in the link which did not fix the problem.

I have the same problem on Linux, installed via apt. Workaround was to add the song/album/playlist/artist/whatever to my Library when opened in Firefox. Click the newly added item in the client and remove it again. This way the link is now open in the client instead of the browser. This should works on any OS.

If you're unable to implement an "open in spotify" feature, please at least provide us with a button to go to the album (or whatever you've currently open in the browser) in the client (when already opened).

Hey there,

Thanks for posting in this thread! And kudos for giving the steps a try @Cuilpantiel.

Just to check, do you see a pop-up in the browser where you're asked if you want to open the track in the app?

Another option is to copy the link and paste it directly in the desktop app, which will open it within the app right away. You can also open it in the app using the Web Player from the content's 3 dot menu.

Hope this helps!

If you are having trouble with open.spotify.com links opening and playing in the desktop app, when the link is clicked, it may be your browser adblock extension. I was struggling with this, and had one installed. As soon as I disabled it for the Spotify website, the open.spotify links work exactly as they should. Took me forever to find this solution, hopefully this helps someone else!
