The problem seems to be rooted in the switchable graphics of my laptop and occured because I had not assigned a GPU to the spotify client and as such the application could not use GPU acceleration. This seems to be the case with both Nvidia and AMD switchable graphics solutions.

Hello my spotify after the latest update has been launching with a black screen in the place of the browse pages and other content which involves pictures. The client still is able to display text and the names of songs if I play them but everything else is black.

Hi there,

This thread here http://community.spotify.com/t5/Help-Desktop-Linux-Mac-and/Spotify-Black-screen/m-p/738117/highlight/true#M79447 will offer some suggestions as to fixes to this issue. Although it does help when an issue like this crops up to post you machine specs and OS, as well as the app version. To find the app version got to ---- Help upper left hand corner --- to About Spotify and the version number is there at the top of the pop up window, my version is 0.9.11.27.g2b1a638c. Also are you using a proxy and also if you are using a router do you have UPNP enabled on the router if you have access to it?

What worked for me was to make sure Spotify was set to "Run as Administrator." It then worked without a hitch.
