Screen goes black everytime i start spotfiy and play a song.

My Question or Issue

Since upgrading my GPU on my pc to a RTX 5070 everytime i start spotify and play a song my screen goes black for a second with no sound and then comes back. It happens everytime i start spotify from a fresh boot, It never did it before and there is nothing wrong with my GPU because this only happens with spotify. Its just very annoying and i have tried all the usual stuff like diabling hardware acceleration and reinstalling the app it makes no difference. Any asistance would be appreciated thank you!

I see you have already tried some basic steps, I would still recommend a clean-install of the Spotify app. You can use this guide and let me know how it goes.

Also, if you have used the Microsoft Store to download Spotify, use the official downloads page this time and see if that makes any difference. 🙂

Hi I can confirm i have been right through and deleted all traces of spotify and changed to the offical download rather than the microsoft store version several time before i even came here but as i said it made no difference. I don't think the problem is on my end.

Thanks for giving the steps suggested by @Amay a try! Hope you don't mind us jumping in as well 🙂

There are a few other things which comes to mind in this case. Feel free to try the following steps (if you haven't already), to see if you notice any difference:

Clearing the hosts file.
Start the PC in Safe mode with networking.
Run the app as an administrator.
Check with another internet connection, if possible. Make sure to switch off any VPN too, as it may interfere with the service.
Reset the app data. Press the 3 dots in the top-right corner > Help > Troubleshooting > Reset app data and restart.
Check if the Web Player behaves the same way.

Hi Maria, Thank you for your input but as again i can confirm the web player has the same effect because i noticed that on a news website that was using a spotify embeded player. And i don't use any kind of VPN so thats not the issue. I'm at a loss.

Thanks for the reply.

When you switched your GPU, did you also change the resolution and/or scaling you're using? Could you please test if altering these settings has any effect on the app. If the issue persists regardless of the settings, could you please send us a screen recording of the behaviour so we can take a closer look. If the files are too large to attach here in the Community, you can send them to us via Google Drive or as unlisted YouTube videos.
