hmmm! my mp3 files are all lower case, spotify lists them all but will not play them, tells me I must upload them and seems to have no working options to do so!

Thanks for reaching out. We've moved your post out to be a separate thread so we can help you further.

Can you confirm if the files are present on the device itself? Or are you trying to sync them from a different device? The title shouldn't matter anymore, so as long as the files are present and the source has been added as shown here, they should be playable. Please send us an exact screenshot of the error you get so we can take a closer look.
