Spotify Windows Installer Bug, Impossible to Install Spotify!

Spotify Windows Installer from directly from Spotify contains a bug which doesn't allow user to install Spotify. Impossible to install Spotify ON WINDOWS 11.

I tried today to install spotify directly from spotify site, (not the windows store version) and it didnt allow me to install, since it threw and exception in the installer.

THIS IS A BUG. Please fix.

After i pressed cancel to debug i got this information inside Visual Studio:

Hey folks,

Thanks for reaching out. We moved the original post from the Idea Exchange to the help boards where it better fits.

If you haven't already, we'd first recommend deleting any leftover Spotify folders that might be causing installer crashes. To do this, open the Start search bar, type %AppData%, press Enter and delete any Spotify folders in AppData\Roaming and AppData\Local.

If this doesn't do the trick, you can try temporarily disabling Windows Firewall or any antivirus software to see if this makes any difference.

Keep us posted on how it goes.

Hello,

I didn't find any leftover folders in %AppData%.

I've tried running the installer after i disabled the antivirus & firewall, still nothing changed.

I've noticed tho that in %LocalAppData%/Temp that a file gets created temporarly and then deleted, maybe that may give some insight but i was unable to copy the file in time before it gets deleted by the Spotify installer.
So at the very least the installer reaches that point in the code, where it writes and deletes a temporary file.

Here's its being described what the reason for the crash was. Its most likely an internal case not being handled.

The relevant team has made some changes backstage - could you check if you're able to download and install the app from our website now?

In case the issue persists, it would be very helpful if you could also share the MD5 hash of the installer by following the steps below:

Run PowerShell as an administrator.
Enter the following command:
Get-FileHash "SpotifySetup.exe" -Algorithm MD5

We'll be on the lookout for your replies.

Amazing work everybody. I have confirmed that the installer works (on a fresh install).

Also the Windows Store version was working in the mean time while the standalone version was not working.

Now both work! Thank you!

For me installer still doesn't work. App crashes files and folders still are showing up. I am able to install from Microsoft Store but i don't want.

Have you uninstalled the Microsoft Store version first? Then tried the installer?
Also delete all folder just like Novy said.

Try those first.

Also try deleting all installers you find and download a fresh one.

Maybe even restart the computer after all before running the installer

Hmm, i actually have no idea for a follow up....

Maybe:

Can you post a screenshot on what the errors says? Is it the same error message? Or if you could open the crash file and post a screenshot, same as i did in previous posts?

Indeed, a few more bugs in their code. Again. Maybe they haven't looked into the Windows 10 section.

(Because it was only stated before in this thread the Windows 11 OS).
Hoping the devs can find the issues.

I don't know whether to wait until the installer starts or give up and use Spotify from the Microsoft Store, although I don't want to.
