Windows 7 64b, error message upon launch. Attempted: reinstalling, uninstalling (spotify.exe launches and crashes within a second), rename spotify directory within roaming directory then reinstalling. All advice welcome and appreciated

EDIT: Although I had the newer version running, when I restarted my computer I got the same error when Spotify tried to restart. Using the web player for now 😞

I've managed to get a newer version - I installed the old version from the full installer posted previously (http://download.spotify.com/Spotify%20Installer.exe). There didn't seem to be any support for devices and the interface was blurry on my 4K screen so was not ideal! This version then automatically 'updates' to the current broken version.

I noticed that the updates seem to be incremental; it updates to a newer, non-broken version before updating to the broken one. So I waited for this semi-new version to be installed then followed the instructions in this post to disable automatic updates before the update for the broken version was downloaded: https://community.spotify.com/t5/Desktop-Linux-Windows-Web-Player/Prevent-spotify-from-updating/td-p/281292

I've only had it running for 5 minutes, but hopefully I now have a newer, non-broken standalone version until this gets resolved.

This isn't the first time this has happened.. and the last time Spotify told me "Well, we can't seem to replicate the problem".

Thanks a lot..

The last time I got it working some time after Spotify released an update. Running Windows 10 Pro and obviously this problem has never occured on ny Mac.

Be sure that your Windows installation is not downloading and installing system updates at the time of your Spotify re-installation, though.

Successfully running the old af 0.9 version as linked previously in this thread.

Right now, it's a waiting game.. I will edit this post if I am able to install the latest version, but I doubt it.

No, this bug reappears after every update which happens a couple of times a week if not daily. I found version 1.0.60.492 to be the last working version for me which I have to reinstall after every update. I found a full download at http://www.filehorse.com/download-spotify.

I managed to fix mine permanently ie has survived the forced update without hassle, though I'm not entirely sure why. My rig is 64-bit W10. I both re-installed and am using it with W7 compatibility settings. OTOH there's been W7- users here with the same problem, but anyway It ended up doing the trick for me.

I found a solution, hopefully works also for all the others with this problem.

Go to...

C:\Users\*YOURUSERNAME*\AppData\Roaming\Spotify

... and rename the Spotify.exe in Spotify1.exe

This simple trick works for me. Spotify now starts in all versions without any errors.
