Yeah, even though Spotify is more a streaming app, maybe spotify could act also as a normal media player someday. That way users could set it as a default player for local files.

What I heard you can do is click on an mp3 file you have already, right click, select 'Open with...' and find the Spotify program (make sure it's not the shortcut you have on your desktop or taskbar). Once you do, all mp3s should open in Spotify. I have never tried since I listen using my phone, not my computer.

Yes, would like a way to do this. It does play music, so it is a music player. Should not matter if it streams or not.

It works, you need to get ownership of the Spotify home directory from TrustedInstaller.

Then you can select Spotify to open mp3.

It won't play them from (at least it didn't in my case) but you will then have the possibility to select Spotify to be the default music application.

This is useful if you want to open Spotify using media keys from your keyboard.

So it solves the problem of making spotify the default music player, but it does not load the executed local mp3.

I tried almost everything and when i gave up, I found the answer. open the search section "Cortana" and then go to "Notebook" you find it on the left bar, then you go to music and put spotify as "on",and then you login..
