My Question or Issue

Recently, several songs have been played distorted.
Reinstallation of the Spotify app did not help. I am using the app version 1.0.74.380.g1fcff12 on Windows 10.

Hey @SirJutter

According to the version number you posted, your client seems to be several versions behind.

The current version starts with 1.0.84 for both desktop client and the Windows Store app.

I recommend reinstalling cleanly:

1. Close Spotify and uninstall it.
2. Go to %AppData% in Windows Explorer, and delete any Spotify folders you find in Local and Roaming folders.
3. Restart your computer.
4. Install Spotify.

This way you'll have the latest client and get rid of any issues caused by bad Spotify program files. 🙂

After install I checked the version, and it is not 1.0.84...

Is it still doing it when using the download link in the article?

Also, did the issue (distorted playback) go away with the reinstall? 🙂

When I user the download link I become an onder version then 1.0.84.
I deleted all the old Spotify files and reinstall Spotify.
When I try to play some songs then some where good and others played
distorted

I have the same problem.

Yesterday everything was fine, today every song is distorted. E.g. browsing and even mouse-movement makes the thing worse. I can also play my playlists in the browser with the same result. Even in offline-mode it is the same.

But e.g. if I use amazon Music (same song) or any other player everything works fine.

Has there anything been changed since yesterday?

System:

Intel Core i5 3570k

16GB DDR3 Ram

creative x-fi Titanium Sound-card (newst Driver)

Windows 10 (newest official version and updates)

Spotfiy and the downloaded songs are on a SSD

btw. things get worse if spotify get's minimized.

I'd suggest reinstalling using the offline version. It probably won't install the latest version at first, but chances are it may fix your issues.
Do the clean reinstall I showed earlier. 🙂
Also try these sound settings below!

That's weird!

I'd suggest doing the following changes to the audio settings:

1. Go to speaker icon on Taskbar, right-click on that

2. Select "Playback devices"

3. Go to Communications tab and set Windows to do nothing
4. Go back to Playback tab, select the audio device and click on Properties
5. Go to Advanced tab in the opened window.

6. Put a tick in the box for "Allow applications take exclusive control of this device". You can also put a tick in the box for "Give exclusive mode applications priority"

7. Click OK, and click OK again.

Also, disable any effects.
The Windows audio enhancements:
1. Go to Taskbar, find and click on the speaker icon. Click the speaker/device icon again on the volume slider popup.
2. Go to Sound Enhancement tab and disable them.
3. Disable any other effects too, such as Dolby.

Your soundcard might have an own control program, so I suggest checking for this.

Reinstalling Spotify might help too!

Thank you for your reply.

I already did all that. Changed from Desktop APP to Windows 10 App but didn't help.

What is really interessting that the browser-playback of spotifiy has the same issue but no other music-player has this.

Did spotify recently change the buffer-size or something (e.g. for family accounts)?

I'm not aware of any such changes, but this should affect me as well if that's the case.

Could you try another account and see if the playback is still distorted?

Also, try restarting the router. 🙂

I've tried the recommended settings. The first few songs were ok, but then
I got to hear a distorted sound again.

Tried it, but it did not help.

In another thread a user discovered that starting the tool realtemp (it shows temperatures of the cpu-cores) when spotify runs most of the distortion goes away. And I can confirm that. Most (not all) of the audio distortion goes away if I just start this tool in background. Really strange.
