Error codes 32 and 37: Firewalls and proxies and errors, oh my!

Hello:

Tearing my hair out on this one, so all help gratefully received.

First, the setup:

I'm running Spotify premium via the desktop app on a Windows 10 PC, via a wired (ethernet) connection on a simple home network.

Then, the problem:

I was experiencing intermittent "no connection" issues in the Spotify desktop app, despite a demonstrably functioning internet connection. So, I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, as this had fixed similar problems in the past.

Unfortunately, upon reinstalling the app and attempting to log in, I received an error message about a likely firewall problem: Error Code 32. So, here's what I did to troubleshoot:

Uninstalled and reinstalled Spotify.
Rebooted the router.
Confirmed Windows Firewall settings, ensuring Spotify is getting a pass-through.
Rebooted the PC.
Re-started Spotify

Unfortunately the mystery only deepened. Upon attempting to log in to Spotify, I received similar error message text as before, but now indicating Error Code 37.

Grateful for any constructive help.

Hi, there:

I ended up spending a long while with Spotify support (first and second
level), and they were very kind and helpful, but to no avail.

It later occurred to me that the Spotify application might be getting
denied network connectivity due to a Windows problem rather than an
application problem. So, in desperation, I did a clean reinstall of Windows
(10 in my case).

That fixed the problem. Granted, it's rather a sledgehammer solution, but
nothing else I tried worked, and that did. So, all's well that ends well,
as far as I'm concerned.

I had contacted Spotify via chat as it was showing continually that I was not connected to the internet, even though I was connected (I use library wifi which is very reliable). They advised me to uninstall Spotify from Windows Apps & features (I had to log in to Windows) in my Start --> Settings, then to reinstall it via the Windows App Store (I Googled that). There were three or four apps for Spotify; what? I chose the first app. I did that (installed), opened up Spotify (via "launch" button after installation), tried to log in, and then got error code 32; the pop-up error box suggested I reset my proxy settings and gave a link to click on. I clicked on that link and finally clicked on the drop-down box arrow and selected "no proxy," and clicked "reset" or "ok." It worked! Finally!!!

I hope this helps someone else.

PS: I have Windows 10 Home on a Toshiba Satellite computer (I purchased from Costco in 2011) and use the free version of Spotify.

Thank-you SO much! This was extreamly helpful, because another guy said I should RESET Windows 10, but I read on and found this review. I am a bit concerned about having no proxy and that it might lead to something bad. But overall I am very happy that I have fixed this issue. I wonder what it came from in the first place... Maybe a Windows Defender bug.

I'm glad it helped.

As I said, I use the library (which I think has some filtering) for their wifi and so far have encountered nothing bad. I also have another public location I use for wifi in a pinch and so far no problems. I use Avast & Malwarebytes and have those networks set to "public" settings; I also have an Avast browser that comes up if I do banking, or can launch if I feel uncomfortable with anything. So far, so good. Avast does have products to use/purchase, such as a VPN, but so far I have had no problems. I'm also careful what I access. I realize this doesn't have anything to do with Spotify problems, but perhaps it will help set your mind at ease.

PS: Error code 37 is a device driver error. Simple Google search will bring up several sites on how to fix it. Basically, go to Device Manager, select which Device you are looking for & right click on it, and select "update driver." That has saved me from USB port issues (which I've had).
