topic Discover not working correctly? in Desktop (Windows)

I very recently opted to try Spotify. After poking around with some features, however, I don't think its working correctly. I use Free on Windows 7.

I understand that the Discover tag in Browse is supposed to show you personalized reccomendations (this being the feature that drew me to the service in the first place). But I don't see anything of the sort; just preselected suggestions. Also, I have been having a strange issue that may or may not be related: the spotify icon in the Win 7 toolbar always displays a little green sliver in the corner, like its downloading something. It never seems to move, and it has remained there persistently since install.

There also may be more issues that I haven't been able to discern as a new user.

I've tried reinstalling and that didn't fix the problem. If anyone could shed some light on this, it would help.

Hey @Tallarn

Welcome to the Community! 🙂

The taskbar icon is just a glitch, the client isn't really downloading anything. I have this issue too.

Now to the Discover section - for me it does show personalised suggestions, like "because you listened to X" and "Suggested for you based on Y".
I checked a Free account as well (that user has been on Spotify for a few months), her Discover section is also personalised, but has much less content than I do.
I think that for brand new users that haven't listened to a lot of music yet the Discover section is displaying just the basic / popular suggestions.

It also seems that it doesn't really take Spotify's own playlists into account, only artists/albums/songs that the user has looked up and listened to.

So, I suggest listening to more music and venturing through artist pages. 🙂 After a while, you'll also get 2 playlists - Discover Weekly and Release Radar.

Let me know if you have more questions!

Thanks for the reply. It's possible that that is the problem, although I have listened to several full albums and a bunch of miscellaneous songs/artists. Regardless, I guess I'll keep going and see if the issue resolves itself after a bit.
