Does it throw any specific error messages too, if yes, what does it say?

You can try uninstalling and reinstalling in Safe Mode, or you can use a program that uninstalls Spotify for you like IObit Uninstaller or CCleaner.

I'd also recommend, just in case, to run a scan with a few antimalware apps like Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware (this will find thousands of tracking cookies among other stuff) and Windows Defender. Windows also has this tool.

For Safe Mode download this offline installer by Spotify.

To enter Safe Mode, type msconfig into search and hit Enter. Go to Boot tab and select Safe boot (with networking) and the next restart takes you to Safe Mode.
To return from Safe Mode, you have to go to msconfig once again and take the tick off Safe Boot, and the next restart takes you back to normal Windows.

You may also perform malware scans in Safe Mode.

Let me know how it goes 🙂

After the update, Windows startup icons on my toolbar disappeared. This included, calander, MS Edge browser, Mail, MS store, and Spotify. The space for the icon is still on the toobar but it is blacked out. Right clicking allows me to get the menu popup to see which app is missing.

2. I have uninstalled Spotify and reinstalled. As soon as the new update is applied, I get the same results as above.

Hey @Strascak

That's strange!

I'd recommend reinstalling your Spotify client to wipe out possible errors.

For non-Windows Store client do this:

1. Close Spotify and uninstall it.
2. Go to %AppData% in Windows Explorer, and delete any Spotify folders you find in Local and Roaming folders.
3. Restart your computer.
4. Install Spotify.

For Windows Store client I recommend resetting the app (Tenforums guide) and then reinstalling it following the steps in this article.

I also recommend using the Windows Store client over the standalone version of Spotify. 🙂

If this issue persists, make sure all Windows updates (especially those that handle drivers or their software) are installed. You can also try disabling hardware acceleration within Spotify, it's under menu buttons - View - Hardware Acceleration and clicking on it will restart the client.

Let me know how it goes 🙂
