EDIT: Partly solved... Seems I have to redo this every time I reboot my PC

Problem is solved. Not sure what exactly caused the problem to occur, as I set all my settings back to where they were before, and it still works. Not sure what exactly solved it either. But here's what I did, in this order:

1. Close Spotify.

2. Go to %appdata%>roam> Delete the whole folder called Spotify.

3. Reset all Windows sound settings to standard. This includes Samplefrequences, Coded formats, Standardformat and Physical Format. (run cmd > insert "mmsys.cpl sounds" > enter)

4. Download and install newest version of Spotify (Download from website > more > help > about Spotify > click update.

5. Open Spotify Web player and play a random song

6. Using the web player, select devices and choose the desktop app (while song is playing)

The song continued playing in the desktop app. Then I started setting my settings back one by one, rebooting Spotify everytime I set one. Repeated for the windows sound settings. I did this to try and see where the problem was, funny thing is, I set my settings back 100% to where they were when the problem began, but not I don't encounter any problems?!

Physical Sound is on using Windows Sonic immitating 7.1 surround sound.

My Question or Issue

I'm unable to play music from Spotify using my main PC. App opens fine, I proceed to click on a playlist and then on play just to be met by a blue banner saying "Can't play the current song". The song starts counting up but no sounds playing. If I click a specific track it'll come up with this message "Spotify can't play this song right now. If you have the file on your computer you can import it.".

The problem started after I downloaded and installed an APO, untill then it worked fine. All other sound works fine. I've tried various fixes, but none of them work.

Spotify works fine on my phone and my laptop and also in the browser version using my Desktop PC.

I've tried:

(Note I did uninstall the APO and all it's files before attempting these fixes.)

- Disabling High Quality Streaming

- Removing all local sources

- Disabling Auto Play

- Disabling Crossfade

- Disabling Hardware Acceleration

- Re-install Spotify

- Remove all files from Spotify and installing it again

- Restart PC

- Factory Reset PC and only installing Spotify (and drivers for my DAC/AMP)

And before you suggest it...

- I did set my standard device correctly

- No, Spotify isn't muted in the settings

- No, Spotify doesn't work if I log into another account

- I also tried using Spotify using Windows' standard settings for sound quality etc. - Also after factory resetting my PC

Spotify has had this problem for me for about 8-9 months now. It's fine but then when a new update comes out and it "forces" you to download it when you next launch Spotify it won't let me play music anymore.

I used to have to roll back to older versions but deleting the Spotify folder in appdata\Local seems to do the trick now, except I need to download my playlists again for offline use which is really annoying.

I'm also aware that this is a bump but Spotify seriously needs to fix this. No way am I moving to the Windows 10 app or using the web player...

Some more information.

I have the same Problems as the OP.

When i want to Play via Desktop App, it says spotify cant play this right now... etc.

its on every song i click. every song is played for less than one sec and gets skipped.

using my other computer, using my smartphone or the web-player works all fine.

so i first thought its about my pc. reinstalled spotify, followed the suggested solutions for my problem here in the community forum.. nothing helped.

i just let a friend of mine also login on my pc. and his spotify work as it should. so i would say it has nothing todo with my setup, it has to be my account? but why is my account running on other divices or even other desktop pcs?

i remember reading something of limits you can have in a playlist? may i reach a limit? i dont want to delete playlist to find out.

Now I have this problem, up until now its been working fine for me, but today suddenly when I used my MacBook Spotify app and then without closing it I opened also the Windows App on my other computer**bleep** went crazy... now I can't see some covers of new tracks I have added to my fav list (but this might be a separate problem) and on Windows App no matter which solution presented on the forums (reinstalling sound drivers, the Spotify application, removing the app data folder or clearing the host files) I have tried I still can't play the music (but my MacBook or iPhone apps are working fine)... This looks like a major issue that quite a lot of people are having and remains unfixed until now.
Looks like I will have to take the pain of making new playlists in Apple Music but at least it won't let me down =/
