WiFi bandwidth halved when Spotify running

My Question or Issue

I've found that my WiFi bandwith drops from 30Mbit down to about 10Mbit/sec when Spotify desktop app is running. In fact, has dropped to less than 1Mbit/sec at times with massive dropouts on Spotify playback.

This is NOT Spotify consuming the bandwidth - if I run the windows system monitor, I can see total network utilisation. If I run a speedtest app (Spotify not running) the speedtest app and system monitor show that I'm getting around 30 Mbit/sec. If I then fire up the spotify desktop app & repeat the speedtest, the test app shows I'm getting 10 or so Mbit/sec, as does the system monitor.

I've tried the "solution" of telling Spotify not to use hardware acceleration on the network.

After playing music for an hour or so, the available Wifi Bandwith drops to under 1Mbit/sec.

Any suggestions?
