Hey @meatsack

The Brain Food playlist has a special little algorithm that acts as a beatmatching crossfader. Basically, a machine DJ.

In order to successfully crossfade and match beat, the algorithm drops the beginning and end of the track, going straight to the suitable spot in the track to keep a flow.

You can avoid it by queuing the entire playlist (ctrl + A, right-click, add to queue). This way the songs are played at their full length.

If you need more help, let me know! 🙂

Plan

Premium

Country

Canada

Device

Desktop (multiple)

Operating System

Windows 7

My Question or Issue

Spotify version 1.1.9.383.g9f48828e.

The track lengths shown in a playlist can vary widely from the actual length when the track is played.

For example, I noticed a number of tracks in the following playlist have length discrepancies of ~30 seconds: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DWXLeA8Omikj7?si=qkqz4hwsQYGp4szzrQJJ-Q

For a specific example, the "TrackLab - March" track in this playlist is shown with a length of 4:08, but as soon as it starts playing, the length shown at the end of progress bar changes to 3:53. See attached screenshot.

In some of my personal lists, the discrepancy is only 1-2 seconds, but 30 is not acceptable. This also seems like a fairly straightforward data normalization problem as track lengths should not be stored in multiple places.
