My Question or Issue

I've recently been using Spotify on my new Surface Go tablet, however upon trying to download playlist using my 40GB of data on my attached sim, it won't do it. Spotify seems only willing to download on a Wi-Fi connection, and there's no setting to change it on the desktop app.

My mobile data is not set as a metered connection, and Spotify is set to be allowed to use the data but it still refuses to download, stating "Waiting for connection..."

Help anybody?

I'm having the same problem. Please add a "Download on cellular data" on desktop as well!

Hey there,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

I don't know of a limitation on the desktop app when it comes to the source of the internet connection. This is why I think this could somehow be related to the network provider/carrier.

Are you able to download content for offline listening when you use the same sim card on a mobile phone with the mobile app? How about a different sim on the tablet?

Hi Dian,

Thanks for your answer. I do a lot of work away from home in places
where there is no WiFi, hence I use the SIM connection mostly, since
sharing WiFi from the phone consumes a lot of battery.

The SIM I use in my laptop (windows 10) is a duplicate of my main SIM,
both provided by my network provider. I have no problems with the main
one on my phone, but for the sake of experiment, I have swapped both
SIMs and the result has been the same.

It's worth mentioning that I was also having issues with Thunderbird and
found out it had to do with the VPN. In the process of fixing it, I
completely uninstalled the VPN and its services, but Spotify still had
the same problem.

In any case, this is not a big inconvenience, but as a software
application developer, I am honestly very curious to know where the
problem is. Maybe one day I'll open the spotify package just to learn
about it 🙂

Thanks for the extensive description and excuse the misunderstanding. I meant for you to try a different sim with a different number, so we can exclude carrier related issues. Could you give that a try?

If possible, would you be able to test the desktop app on another similar device with a sim card and a mobile data connection?
