Please check out the steps provided on this Ongoing Issue.

Furthermore, i recommend subscribing to it to be updated on any upcoming changes.

Another simple step you can perform is to go to your Settings > Display options > Show Friend Activity and toggle the setting off and on again.

In addition, you can try logging out > restarting your Mac > logging in again to make sure everything is synced up.

I had the same issue. The sidebar was gone even though the feature was turned on in settings. Toggling off and on and restarting the app brought it back. I use Windows 10.
