Plan

Family

Country

Indonesia

Device

Laptop

Operating System

Windows 10

My Question or Issue

After update to windows 10 ver 2004, the network notification is buggy. it is because it can't always connect to telemetry.microsoft.com (DNS problem) behind my office firewall. That is not a big problem for me, All my apps and browser is working fine, even microsoft softwares. EXCEPT SPOTIFY, which somehow uses this windows systray notification as a cue that no internet is available.
every time at office, I must do "DNS fishing" (it is temporarily changing DNS server the computer uses , only to have the windows notification fixed up, so then spotify would want to work) every time I want to use spotify desktop.

SUGGESTION : please fix this bug, don't make microsoft bug becomes Spotify bug also. Don't rely on windows faulty internet status to determine availability of internet connection.

Thanks so much for mentioning DNS!! I haven't been able to use Spotify after the Windows 10 2004 update, since both say they are offline even though all other apps are online just fine. Encouraged from your post, I went digging.

People found a workaround here:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-10-says-i-have-no-internet-connection-but/50153e5b-a008-443d-af0e-5ee3822c37a1?page=9

For some reason Windows can't always get to the "connect test" links that it uses to check if you've got Internet or not, which indeed breaks any apps relying on that info.
http://www.msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt

http://msftconnecttest.com/connecttest.txt

For me "nslookup" doesn't work for those hosts, but ping does, and that probably has something to do with this.
So if I modify the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file to use the msftconnecttest.com IP I see in ping, the systray icon returns to life from "Connected, no Internet" to just "Connected".

Spotify works again!!
xxx
