I managed to get it to work!

For other people struggling with this:

I am sorry, I cant give you the needed Domain names... I searched the web like a webcrawler whitelisting all domains I could find, but that was not enough. So I disabled all my Adlists one by one and rebooted my PC every time after, yes ... I checked 77 lists until I hit it ....

I found the list which blocked that magical domain i couldn't find. That list had a LOT of entries, so I couldn't manage to finde the domain in there either. I deleted the whole list and probably lost a lot of good filters. But hey, lesson learned.

So much for that, atleast it works now :).

Plan

Premium

Country

Germany

Device

Windows Desktop

Operating System

Windows 10 ver.: 2004 (build 19041.804)

My Question or Issue

Spotify doesn't find a connection on startup. All other services work fine. It neither loads playlists nor songs. I can change the output source (To my alexa speakers for example). This problem solves itself after some time. The time seems to be random sometimes it takes about 5 minutes sometimes an hour or more. But at the end it works. However waiting for about an hour to start streaming music is a no go. I pay for a premium plan, so I want to use the service I am paying for. I am using a Pi-hole, in which all Spotify-domains should be whitelisted.

I whitelisted: "(\.|^)spotify\.com$" which should include all subdomains of spotify.com. Oh, webplayer works without problems so far!

I read several threads from users who had the same or similar issues. Sadly none of them helped me so far.

What i tried so far.:

A clean reinstall

removing index.dat as mentioned here (Noting that I did this two times and it always startet working ~ 2 mins after. This is still too long!)

restarting my computer (Did not work as this accours after every PC-Boot).

checked if its not in offline mode (of course!).

My wife has her PC on the same network. She has this issue too, so maybe it is really something with the Pi-hole, but why would work after a certain time without taking actions within the pihole? Doesn't make sense to me. Are there any domains which need to be whitelisted which are not a subdomain of "spotify.com"?

However any help is appreciated! 🙂 Thank you.

Hi! Thanks for your reply,

sorry for the delay, I had quite a busy day yesterday.

So I turned off my Pihole and the PC could not establish a connection to spotify.

However I restarted the PC with the Pihole turned off and voila it worked. Strange that there hast to be a system reboot inbetween. Good that I double checked. Do you know what domain I have to whitelist for it to work? Turning off the Pihole at all is not an option as it serves as DNS server in my Network.

I really cant find a good explanation, why it starts to work after a certain amount of time when the Pihole is turned on, that doesn't make sense to me. In addition the webplayer worked flawlessly too.

Thanks for your help so far! 🙂

Best regards

Gurkoel

Hey @Gurkoel,

Thanks for getting back to us 🙂

If the issue doesn't persists after turning off the Pi-hole, there could be an issue with its setup.

Another thing you could try is setting it to the default setup version. However, we can't guarantee that this will resolve the issue.

If you need additional troubleshooting help with the Pi-hole, we'd recommend reaching out to the device's manufacturer.

If you have questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us. We'll be happy to help.
