KINDLE FIRE -- Music Stops Playing when OFF

If I turn the Fire off while playing music on Spotify, after a minute or two the music just STOPS. I have to turn the Fire back on. Then the music picks up exactly where it left off and plays until a minute or so after Kindle Fire either goes off automatically due to no activity, or I turn it off. Just like any other music app, (Rhapsody, Pandora) the music should keep playing when the device is turned off. I know Kindle Fire is not officially supported here, but obviously there are many of us who have it on their Kindle Fires. Anyone of you have a solution?

Also, I'm assuming I'd need to UNINSTALL the current Spotify App I have on my Fire before trying to install this one. Or could I get away with having both on there?

The version I linked to is v 0.5.0.982..... so yep, different version. I have no idea what the one on Softpedia is. Should be no need to uninstall the old version before installing the new.

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I didn't know it existed. When I downloaded, it said it would replace other version. We'll see how this works.

I was having this problem so I downloaded the "preview" as suggested. The preview doesn't even have a radio button!

So if anyone can help with this problem I would appreciate it. The radio shuts off after the Kindle does (whether you use the off button or it goes into sleep mode) when the song that was playing when it was turned off (or went to sleep) finishes.

I am having the same problem with my Kindle Fire HD.

I've downloaded the latest version from Amazon and still have the same problem.

The comments on their page seem to indicate it's an ongoing issue:

Are there any plans to fix this problem?

It's a shame because it works great on my computer.

However it seems a waste to pay for the premium version ff it keeps timing out.

I read through the comments - the issue described seems to be that Spotify is not stopping the screen from sleeping which leads to the wifi connection being lost until re-awaken.

Could you please confirm ?

Temp. work-around might be setting the sleep timeout to something longer.

No, you shouldn't waste the battery by keeping the screen alive just to play music. You should allow the music to play without the screen.

Not sure why I would have to state something so totally obvious, but I guess I do.

@pokervane sorry I missed your earlier post "when the song that was playing when it was turned off (or went to sleep) finishes". Could you tell me if this is specific to listening to radio or happens when any streamed song finishes ? the wake-lock should be keeping wifi alive irrelevant of the screen state, as you say

Thanks for the reply.

Your work-around works, but is a big drain on the battery.

The built Amazon music player, Rdio and Pandora are able to play smoothly with no interruption or shut-downs

when the screen sleeps.

Neither my phone nor my iPod touch have this problem when the screen times out.

I'm not sure what it is about the Fire HD that's causing the problem.

Thanks Adam, glad someone is looking into the problem. I've recently subscribed to the Spotify Premium and plan on using my Kindle Fire -HD as a primary source, but have the same spontaneous shut-off problem as others. And a new twist I've discovered, if I close the cover of my Kindle, the screen shuts off and the music keeps playing, but soon starts to break up and play staccato-like. When I re-open the case, the music starts playing smoothly again. Very strange....

Also, I've noticed a problem in the Radio player, but only on the "Classical" genre station. It seems to start when one of those "Composer" albums is playing a cut. The sound stops. The cut plays on without sound. If you pause it and press play again, it goes back to the beginning of the cut and then plays fine, until maybe another cut or two, then the same thing happens. Doesn't seem to be a problem on other stations.

We have no such problems with the Pandora program.
