Spotify does not work when behind school proxy

I work for a school and as you can imagine their network is running on a proxy and also most ports arte blocked Spotify does not download stream or do anything when I am at work. When at the pub or at home absolutely fine. Please when you next do an update have the ability to use proxy server.

Hey! Welcome to the community 🙂

If Spotify has been blocked by the school then it is probably against their terms of usage to circumvent the block.

If you need to set proxy settings for login, have a read at this topic for a few tips for the desktop.

If you are using Android, you must have premium so you could sync your playlist for offline usage when you do have a connection and then you don't need to connect to listen to them.

I also work in a school and Spotify used to work fine through the proxy. Our Internet is provided by the local council and has been blocked by them at source so I can no longer stream at work.

Only solution to this is making some playlists at home and downloading them to your device. Nothing Spotify can do about it I'm afraid. I totally share your frustration!

hi guys,

it is not that simple.

i work in my companies it-dept and we are not blocking spotify in any firewall or proxy.

but the android app says: no internet connection while the desktopapp works fine.

is there any solution for this?

thanks!

i think i have to specify my problem.

spotify on my android works fine, as long as i have a mobile data connection or i am connected to a "normal" wi-fi.

in my companies network with a proxy server spotify regrets with the no internet connection message. but all (!) other apps work fine with the proxy.

spotify isn't blocked by the proxy neither by a firewall.

is there a solution for this?

Android is not my strong point when it comes to community support, I'm a BlackBerry person but I'll try my best to help 😛

Its weird, if it works over mobile data and over normal WiFi then there is nothing wrong with your app, there must be something blocking its connection.

Spotify on mobile and spotify on the desktop work differently. The desktop version uses peer-to-peer technology, whereas the mobile clients stream directly from Spotify servers. Could that be making a difference you think?

Is your work proxy blocking specific ports? It may not be blocking g spotify specifically, but could be blocking the ports it requires

I have a similar problem. Spotify works for one or two tracks but then freezes. Any ideas?
