Steps to reproduce:

1. Launch Android app

2. Play an album or playlist

3. Connect to a Spotify Connect capable device(s)

--- music begins proper playback ---

4. Wait 5+ minutes

5. Launch Android app

6. Playback controls are unavailable (see screen capture)

Able to reproduce this 10x so far.

I know it sounds simple, but it's often overlooked. Could you try restarting your device? If that doesn't help, try a quick clean reinstallation of the app. Just follow the steps here.

Please try using a different network connection to see if that helps. Try signing out and back in several times too.
