Streaming over Bluetooth to head unit

Is it possible to stream local files from my mobile to my android head unit via the Spotify app on the head unit.

I can stream it to the head unit's Bluetooth app and change tracks without touching the phone in my pocket but I would like to do it in the Spotify app which has a better interface.

If not do I have to 'download' all the local files onto my head unit too? I prefer all my downloaded files to just be on my phone if possible

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with this. We'll do our best to help out.

You should be able to do this without any trouble. Is the app unresponsive when you try using the UI from your unit?

If so, you can try reconnecting it through Bluetooth to see if it helps.

The Bluetooth app on the head unit works and can control Spotify on the
phone, so there is no problem there.

The thing is I want to launch the Spotify app on my android head unit,
which is an android tablet in essence, and connect to the phone so as to
stream the local files stored on the phone.

I tried downloading the same files to the head unit in Spotify and it plays
them fine but as I said I only want downloaded files on one one device only
and not in multiple locations.
