casting to chromecast from android broken on spotify update

Plan Free Country Australia Device: Nexus 6p and Samsung Galaxy s4

My Question or Issue

Casting to chromecast 2 from Android device (either nexus 6p on android 8 or Samsung s4 on 4.2) is broken in the latest update. I can cast fine to both my chromecast devices (ultra and 2) from other apps on these devices; but from spotify, it says 'devices available' but when I click that link to cast the devices are greyed out with the message (roughly) 'can't cast to this device now'.

For trouble shooting I restarted the devices (phones and chromecast) and re-installed spotify, no improvement.

I can also cast to the devices from other devices /apps, so it's pretty clearly the spotify app and it all worked fine before the latest update. Would be great to have it fixed.

Solved this using the following that I found online:

open spotify web player on a pc, start playing, casting to target chromecast.

close the web player.

open spotify on android, and your chromecast is now available for casting.
