This is a frequently requested feature:

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Live-Ideas/Audiobooks-Bookmark-Audio-Books/idc-p/4613289

My workaround: when pausing the book add the current section to a "bookmark" playlist. Then you can easily look up where to continue.

Is there a way to resume audio books from where I stopped them? I have to manually search for the chapter in which I stopped listening.

It would be very nice if we could use the same technique as for the podcast.

What could be a reason for Spotify not to implement this? Do they get paid by their competitors to keep their software inferior?

Spotify is music streaming and playing software. This kind of functionality is non-trivial to implement, requiring a lot of work "under the hood". It would be great to have, but it's not actually a surprising decision to focus time and effort in other areas.

Tagging a title as an audio book and excluding it from most played playlists and shuffle functionality should be trivial.

Remembering the last position is already implemented for podcasts.

Where exactly is the challenge to implement something so basic in years of requests for it?

What fancy features have they been busy with? I don't see anything of note except for added titles.
