Bluetooth controls don't work correctly

My Question or Issue

Over the last few months when I try to use my Android Wear device or BT headphones to control tracks on Spotify, nothing happens. The app sometimes displays a timeout screen. The music continues to play.

I can't stop/start/change tracks.

Volume controls work fine.

I tried Audible and Google Play Music, and they work fine - so it looks like it's just Spotify that's acting up.

I saw someone online saying they deleted the app and reinstalled it - which is not really a solution, as I'll lose a lot of GB's of downloaded music.

Need a real solution - or fix for this issue from Spotify.
