Spotify opening on android when used on another device

My Question or Issue

Whenever my boyfriend uses our account on his phone, Spotify will launch in my notification bar whether I am using my phone or not. I could be watching a video on Youtube and it would pause the video and tell me what he's listening to. If I'm not using my phone it will still launch if I have an internet connection (i.e. 4G or WiFi). I have the android Xperia and he has the iPhone 6s. It's very frustrating for me as we have both uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it still continues. Please can anyone help?

Spotify might we running in the background without you using it. So try closing Spotify from the app switcher whenever you are not using Spotify.

I have tried that a few times and it still comes up. I have even force closed the Spotify app and it comes up as soon as he launches on his phone.

Any help would be appreciated.

Could you try going to your phones settings and disabling Background app refresh for Spotify? This might do the trick.
