Why has Spotify decided to start randomly pausing in the middle of a song now?

Have never had a problem on my GS8 before a few days ago, now it will randomly pause in the middle of a song and not restart until I pick up the phone wake up the screen saver.

Seems to work better if I take the app offline, but if I'm streaming or looking for new music, paused at least 5 or 10 times per song now.

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community regarding this!

We'd first recommend making sure you've set the app as an exception for any cache clearing or battery optimization apps (for example, Sleeping Apps or app power monitor). There's also some additional steps to try in this support site article.

If you're still having troubles after that, we'd suggest performing a clean reinstallation of the app following the steps in this Spotify Answer.

If that doesn't do the trick, any additional details on when this happens would be very helpful (for example, is this occuring when you're connected to a speaker or headphones via Bluetooth).
