Also, why can't Spotify be compliant with some pretty basic "standards" (not really standards, but accepted way to do it) to respond to the multimedia toggles? The Power Toggles widget doesn't even work with Spotify, which is kind of sad because it works with everything else. You guys should either expose a custom API to access now-playing as well as start/stop tracks, or just comply with what works for every other media player.

I pay 10 bucks a month for this; why isn't such basic functionality implemented? Alternatively, just tell us what the "device broadcast status" is so we can create our own widgets.

/pseudo-rant

by the way, I tweeted your "developer" twitter account; hopefully they'll actually respond to me this time.

The new Spotify app came with the setting "Device Broadcast Status". Does this mean its possible to read the meta-data of the current song? How do I go about doing this? The current spotify homescreen widget is horrifyingly ugly with its low pixel density icons and I want to try to implement my own.

Thanks

Interesting... I wonder if just setting up a Broadcast receiver and intent filter on the com.android.music.* would work like it normally does.
