Hi there @micahraatz32,

Welcome to the Community!

When the app isn't open while you're listening to a podcast that has video, there's no video playback. The same happens when you download a podcast for offline listening and the option Audio-only podcasts is toggled on - once you enable the Offline Mode, only the audio of the downloaded podcasts is played.

In this case, we recommend running a clean reinstall of the app by following these steps. This can be helpful to get rid of any cached files that might be causing trouble. Keep in mind that you'll need to download all your content again afterward.

If the issue persists, let us know when this started happening and if it was after a specific event, along with the Spotify version you're rocking, so we can further look into it.

Keep us posted. We'll be on the lookout.

Plan

Premium

Country

United States

Device

Galaxy S10

Operating System

Android Oreo

My Question or Issue

Hi, I have been having issues with the Spotify app chewing through my battery when I listen to video podcasts.

I would like a way to disable video podcasts in the app. I have the settings set to only download the audio version of the podcasts, and also I set Spotify to offline mode before I loose signal. I download the podcasts that I listen to the day before because my cell phone doesn't get a consistent signal in my place of employment. For some reason Spotify continues to try and load the video version of the podcasts when my screen is off and with the settings listed above. Because I don't get cell service where I usually listen this causes my cell phone to drastically drain the battery and I am forced to stop listening to charge my device. If there is a way to disable the video all together this would solve my problem or if there is a setting that I have overlooked please let me know.

Thank you in advance,

Micah
