Plan

Premium

Country

United States

Device

Samsung Galaxy S10e

My Question or Issue

Podcast playback has been very broken on my spotify app for a while. Still works fine on desktop. On my phone, I'll hit play, the podcast audio will start, but the "now playing" bar or section won't show that anything is playing. The audio will be going but the time is wrong, the name is wrong, and the play/skip buttons don't work well. Reinstalling spotify did not help. Force closing the app stops the audio. After playing for ~5 minutes the podcast will stop on its own.

This is really annoying, especially since some of my favorite podcasts have gone spotify exclusive and now I have to put up with their terrible interface to listen. I just want spotify to do the simple task of playing podcasts, show me it's playing, and let me pause the episode.

Hey @emilykstokes,

Thank you for reaching out to us here in the Community. We're happy to help.

We suggest that you perform a clean reinstall of the app. This will make sure there's no old cache files causing this.

If you have an SD card we suggest that you uninstall the app > turn off your phone > take out your SD card > turn on the phone again (without the SD card) > reinstall the app.

Let us know how everything goes so that we can continue to assist you if you need us to. We're always one reply away 🙂

Cheers!

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the tips. I did the full fix and it worked for a little while, but the problem has started again over the last week. I'm just going to stop using spotify mobile for podcasts. Thanks so much!

Hey @emilykstokes,

Thanks for getting back to us.

That the steps @Jermey posted fixed the issue for a while indicate that something is interfering with the app on that specific device. Could you make sure that all permissions are enabled and that Spotify is excluded form all battery optimization and cache clearing services?

Also, does this happen when you download podcasts and set the app in offline mode? This guide can help with that.

Keep us posted, we'll be on the lookout for your reply.
