I know this used to be possible in an older version of the spotify desktop app, as I was previously able to find my device. I can no longer locate it when both are connected. I think that wifi was always a requirement. Without wifi on your desktop, all I can suggest is seeing if you can tether your desktop to the mobile using a USB connection.
