Hi there,

I am replying from my email account. I share an account with my wife (
**bleep**) but I'm the one having an issue on my phone.
My phone system is Android 11 and I have the latest version of Spotify.
Basically every time I pause Spotify, especially on a drop down screen or
on the lock screen the App crashes and I have to open Spotify again. The
same happens when. I get email or text notifications. The app crashes where
it used to just resume playing after the notification was received. I have
checked the battery setting and such but it keeps doing this no matter what
I do. I am beginning to think it is a phone problem (my phone is three
years old and seeing how things are built to break in 2 years...) Or a
storage issue but I would really like my Spotify to not crash when I pause
to pay for my coffee in the morning or when someone texts me while I am
driving and listening to a podcast in the car.

Thanks

Gary Kalmek

Whenever I pause a song or podcast I notice that the app shuts down. This happens when I pause on the lock screen or browse down from the top of the screen. Spotify just...disappears and I have to reopen the app to press play. Also whenever I get a notification for an email or sms or chat the app crashes which is really annoying. I will be listening to something, an email comes in and spotify just crashes. I have tried toying around with the battery saver and looking at Spotify's settings but can't seem to find the thing that will prevent the app from crashing when I hit pause on the lock screen or get a notification. I have updated Spotify to the latest version and it still keeps happening

Hi @NightZoo,

Welcome to the Community and thank you for posting!

We're sorry to hear about these issues you've been having with the app, but we'll do our best to help you sort them out.

To start, on your phone's settings, make sure that Background app refresh is toggled on and that Spotify is whitelisted in any battery optimization app.

Also, check if your phone has a setting to allow/deny the use of data while an app is in the background. If it does, allow it for Spotify.

Lastly, if the issue persists, let us know the make, model and OS of your phone, as well as the Spotify version you're running.

Keep us posted.

Hi @NightZoo,

Thank you for keeping in touch!

We'd like to make sure of something, you mentioned the app crashes when you receive a notification and the music resumes after the notification is received. By crashing do you mean that it just stops the playback, or that the app is completely unresponsive?

Also, it's a good idea to run a clean reinstall of the app, as this one is more thorough than a regular one and can be helpful to get rid of any cache that might be causing trouble.

Keep us posted.
