If I click on a song link, the app opens but the song doesn't play

If I click on any song link or a playing session link sent by a friend the app opens but then the song doesn't play and I'm not able to join the session.

Hey there, welcome to the community

I have to confirm something first though, are you on a premium or free plan.

Because if it's a free plan then, it lacks some permissions like directly playing a song from links or joining listening sessions.

If it's premium though, I could suggest some troubleshooting steps.

Before that, can you share your device OS version and Spotify app version, would be appreciated.

Now to try and fix those issues, you can try to :

clear app cache
restart your device
log out and back in
try on a different device
try on a different network(even if it's mobile data)
Perform a clean reinstall of the app, shouldn't clear your data or anything.
remove SD card and try again.
