Plan

Premium

Country

Germany

Device

Galaxy Watch 3 (SM-845F)

Operating System

Tizen 5.5.0.2

My Question or Issue

I am able to search for music and play songs etc. that aren't downloaded as long as the watch is connected to my phone via bluetooth. The watch is equipped with an eSim that includes a mobile data plan. While any other app requiring mobile data still works when the connection to the phone is lost, Spotify will no longer play any music that hasn't previously been downloaded.

As I am trying to use exactly that function when going for runs in order to not have to lug the phone with me, this is pretty frustrating. Restarts have not changed anything and as far as I can tell the required permissions are set as well.

There could be several reasons why Spotify is not playing on your Galaxy Watch 3. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check that your Galaxy Watch 3 is connected to your phone and that both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network or mobile data.

Make sure that you have the latest version of the Spotify app installed on your phone and your Galaxy Watch 3.

Try restarting your Galaxy Watch 3 and your phone.

Uninstall and reinstall the Spotify app on your Galaxy Watch 3.

Make sure that Spotify is set as the default music player on your Galaxy Watch 3.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue and you can start enjoying Spotify on your Galaxy Watch 3 soon!

to 1:) when I am going for a run, the point is to leave the phone at home, so they will naturally NOT be connected to each other and the phone may still be on WiFi, while the watch switches to mobile data.

to 2.) according to the samsung app store there's no updates available for any app on my watch

3.) doesn't solve the issue

4.) MAY have fixed this. I have done it before to no avail at all, but it seems like it may be working now. I will update after my next run this week.

Okay good to hear you might have fixed it. One thing I always forget with my Apple Watch is forgetting to set my Bluetooth to the watch and not my phone so I go out to shovel snow and I lose the tunes =( lol

Enjoy the run Metalhead,

-Prague the Dog 🤘

Once it's done, try re-pairing the watch using Bluetooth.

It's also worth checking for updates for your watch's operating system and giving it a quick restart afterwards.

Shouldn't that do the trick, could you let us know what version of the operating system you're running on your watch?

Let us know how you get on.

Welcome to the Community and thank you for joining the conversation.

Just to be on the same page, have you tried the troubleshooting mentioned in previous comments by @Prague and @Maria? This is to avoid repeating processes that you may have tested already.

Also, include in your next response the model and the OS version of your watch to continue investigating.

We'll be on the lookout.

Thanks OscarDC - I'm using the Galaxy Watch 6 with latest updates. Yes, I've tried above suggestions, to include factory reset, Spotify uninstall/reinstall on watch and phone, delete mobile plan and re-authenticate, change mobile plan between Auto and always on and may other small tweaks I found during research. The watch used to play Spotify on mobile data. I was able to play and download on Spotify, use Bixby and Google Assistant via voice commands on mobile data, send SMS texts and emoticons on 5G mobile. It worked great but then stopped a few months ago.

Thank you for keeping in contact and for the info shared.

To investigate this further with internal teams, include in your next response the OS version of your Watch. It would also be great if you could record a short video where we can take a better look. You can attach it to your next response by using the Insert Video option in the post editor. You can also upload it to YouTube or Google Drive and share the link with us (make sure the video has the permissions for anyone to watch it).

We'll be on the lookout.
