Spotify stops while playing on the background

My Question or Issue

Spotify stops playing music while playing on the background each 20 minutes approximately. I need to take my phone, unlock it, open Spotify and press play, then it continues for the next 20 minutes and then stops again. It is happening with both bluetooth wireless and wired heaphones.

This problem is an old one because I am facing it for a couple of months now. (since May/June I guess) and I have tried to clean cache, re-install the app several times during this time and for some period the problem goes away, but then it returns.

I know about Android battery optimization, so I have clicked on "Do not optimize" for Spotify app. But the issue is still there no matter what. Also, from time to time this "Do not optimize" option returns back to "Optimzie" by itself without actions from my side. (Maybe it returns after phone reboot or after receiving some software update, idk).

The point is - what else can I do, why is it happening, how can I resolve it for good, because I am tired of re-installing the app. The problem constantly returns.

I listen podcasts via other apps and there is no such problem - podcasts does not stop playing however Spotify does. Music playing via Chrome browser also does not stops playing.

I am using both WiFi and 4G connection - issue is happening in both cases.

currently having a similar problem

Nokia G20 with Android 13

At random time intervals after I close the app, music will stop playing and rewind the song, and it sometimes clears the queue. Sometimes I will get a pop up that says I need to turn on background permissions, but Spotify has all permissions turned on in my phone settings, and in "additional app capabilities" it says it has background permission. Also, Spotify Connect still works in the background on my phone if I'm playing on a different device.

Thanks for reaching out and kudos for the troubleshooting you've tried so far.

As a next step, can you please reach out to your respective phone manufacturer and go through your device's settings to make sure that absolutely all relevant services/permissions have been disabled/enabled?

I have the exact same problem with my Samsung Galaxy A53 5G but the playback runs less than a minute sometimes. Spotify has all the permissions. This phone is pants at everything so it might just be it.

Hello again so soon. I got it fixed, at least it seems so.

From android settings go to "battery" and then there's the "Don't put the app to automatic sleep" thing and pick Spotify to that list.

(My settings are not in English so I'm not sure how it is written there)

I hope this helps someone else too
