Spotify PiP minidisplay crashing Android

Issue

When playing any content in video mode and press Android home button, calling the picture in picture minidisplay, the android crashes and restart.

I did try: force apk stoping; clean apk cache/data; reinstall apk; restart device.

I did notice ths issue about 08:00 GMT-3 at 10/02/2025 (feb 10th).

Same is happening in my wife's phone (moto g84). I have Premium Duo together.

Reproducing issue steps:

- open Spotify;

- find any content with "switch to video" option;

- play it;

- switch to video;

- press Android home button;

- Android will immediately restart.

Only audio contents doesnt shows this behavior.

Could you try another app with PIP and see if the crash happens there? This will help determine whether the issue is only with the Spotify PIP.

With your response, you can also include the Spotify app version you use on both devices.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, PiP works fine with chrome and Tiktok.

Spotify version in both devices is 9.016.572

In fact, i've been testing others scenarios as well:

- The playing content doesnt need to be on video mode. If it start in video mode automatically, it crashes when android home button is pressed, regardless the current mode.

- If the content has video mode but it starts automatically on audio mode, it only crashes when video mode is selected.

- paused content doesnt crash the system.

- when pressed Android multitask button instead home button, the system crash doesnt happen.

Could you try testing this on another Android device? This will help in figuring out if the issue is with the specific device like Moto in this case since both devices must be on the same OS.

You have already included the Android version 14, please share the OS version also. I'd also appreciate it if you could share a screen recording of the issue.
