After updating to Android 15 pixel watch no longer controls phone volume in Spotify app

My Issue

Before updating to Android 15 I was able to control the volume of my Pixel phone from my Pixel watch in the Spotify app. This is very handy e.g. when running a Yoga class where my Pixel phone is plugged into the studio's audio system using a USB-C cable and I am in the middle of the room and can use the dial of my Pixel watch to adjust the volume.

After updating to Android 15 this no longer works now. I can still control Spotify from my watch, e.g. to skip to the next song, but I am no longer able to control the volume and need to go to my phone to adjust the volume.

I have already rebooted both devices, re-installed Spotify on both devices, but the problem remains. And all this started happening after updating to Android 15.

I fully reset my Pixel watch and set it up again. Now I can control phone volume again from both the Spotify and Media Controls app.
