&lt;P&gt;Yes, you can use your phone to start the playback on another device and control what plays there regardless of distance or network. As for a timer, there is a feature called the Sleep Timer although it has to be set on the device itself and isn't available on all devices. See the explanation in &lt;A href="https://community.spotify.com/t5/Other-Podcasts-Partners-etc/Sleep-timer/td-p/5916057" target="_blank"&gt;this thread &lt;/A&gt;to see how it works.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;

&lt;P&gt;It's not necessary to be on the same network to control the playback on another device.
