My Question or Issue

Currently, when visualizing lyrics either through the box below the play/pause button or through the dedicated full screen lyrics page and another song starts, the app stops focusing on the lyrics and the screen goes to the album art+progress bar above the lyrics. This makes hands-free listening (and singing along) somewhat annoying, since I have to manually scroll to the lyrics every time the song change. Before suggesting a change as an idea, I'd like to confirm if this is the intended action and not just a bug or an issue being looked at.

We can confirm that this is the expected behavior of the app. However, as you mentioned, we suggest checking our Idea Exchange to see if there's already an idea about this. If there isn't you can submit your own so other users can add their votes and show their support. You can find the steps to submit an idea here.

Carlos. Can you please provide additional info on this? It has been nearly 2 full years since this post and the app still does NOT provide true hands free playback. This appears to be a glaring bug, particularly as someone who just moved to Spotify Premium. I used YouTube Music previously and as terrible at some things as it is, they at least keep their lyrics screen up with switching from song to song. If Spotify is going to market itself or its settings as being able to enable true 'hands free playback' then this needs to be addressed. Please advise. Thanks for your time.

edit: Apologies, I didn't realize this was a thread dedicated to an Android device. I have an iOS device, but the behavior and sentiment are the same. If I need to post this to another thread or submit in some other way to someone else, please let me know. Thanks.

You are right and I hope this gets some traction.

Just change the default behavior of the app to stay on whatever screen I left it at, be it the artwork, behind the lyrics or lyrics themselves.

We are in 2026 and Spotify still acts like its stuck in 2012 this issue / feature still hasn’t been implemented I might aswell stick to YouTube or even apple atp

If you really thought this was a solution, you're dumb. AND ITS STILL A PROBLEM TO YEARS LATER, wth. Every time a new song plays, it turns OFF the lyrics, so I have to manually click the lyrics again, EVERY TIME. Fix this spotify and YOU, give actual solutions instead of spewing pointless/unhelpful **bleep** next time.

im on PC and ive recently been getting the same thing. it used to stay on lyrics then it just randomly started going to the cover art.

So, this is very odd, but I actually have had the ability to do this until very recently. Like, maybe last week. For a few years now, I have been able to just click the Lyrics View on a song that has lyrics, and even if the next song that plays doesnt have lyrics available, it kept Lyrics View up and just said something like "Oh no we don't have lyrics for this yet!"

I'm super confused as to why I now can't just do that, but now I find out it wasn't even supposed to be a feature???? What????? Like, I've just had the best bug ever on Spotify and it got patched????? and it sucks????? wth

There are already suggestions on the official channels to add this as a feature but like.... please. I beg. I hate having to click over to Lyrics View every time the song changes, especially after expecting it to stay up for every song, since, again, I have had that for years.

Yeah the same, I only noticed it this week. On desktop it's always just show the next songs lyrics, I'm here searching for how to switch it back when apparently working as intended is a lot worse than the "bugged" version. It's more than odd, I'm literally so confused.

Why is randomly switching the Lyrics View to the Cover View intended? That's a weird choice and also something that only changed (on desktop) maybe two weeks ago. So someone CHOSE to implement this?
