Spotify will randomly close and the songs will restart

My Question or Issue

My songs will randomly stop playing, as the app will close and the song restarts.

I have tried everything including clearing cache, deleting the app restarted my phone and reinstalling the app. This is very frustrating

Thanks for reaching out about this. Sorry to see you've been having issues with your playback.

Could you let us know if the app has worked before on this device, when this has started and if you can recall if it has begun after a specific event like an app or OS update? Does it happen only when the app is in the background/ the device is locked or at any time?

We'd also like to ask you to share with us the exact app behaviour you're seeing on your end - are there any error messages or does the app simply close itself, restarting the song upon app launch? Does the app restart on its own or do you need to manually start it up again?

And, aside from this, although this might seem like an obvious thing, make sure your device has enough storage (at least a few GB free) in order to ensure that the app can run smoothly.

Hi it started happening when i recently had an OS update, upgrading from android 15 to 16.

The app will simply close on is own, restarting the song upon app launch, yes i have enough storage space on my phone.

It only happens when the device is turned on and the app is running in the background

Hey there @cal_listar,

Thanks for getting back to us and letting us know.

Since the issue started happening after an OS update, most likely the new Android version's trying to optimize your phone's battery performance. In this case, we'd recommend disabling the battery optimization for Spotify by going to Settings > Apps > Spotify > Battery > Choose Unrestricted (or disable battery optimization).

Also, in the same Battery section, make sure Background activity is allowed and Restrict background usage is turned off (if you have this option in your phone).
