Yes, this has happened on mine too. It happened regulary on the "preview version" on some of my larger playlists, but when I went to download again, it did so quickly (i.e. it wasn't really downloading them again just fixing the index I guess).

WARNING!

Be very careful upgrading to the new Android client version 0.5.0.1247.

I just lost all my offline content after the upgrade. While this might not happen to everyone, if it happened to me it highly likely it will happen to others. So don't upgrade if you are not at home or don't have access to Wi-Fi. Save the upgrade for later when you know you can re-sync all your offline content.

It's sad that Spotify seemed to have screwed up here this is not a good way to be treating customers who've already waited way too long for an ICS compatible upgrade. The funny thing is, the upgrade to the preview version went fine with no loss of offline content, now they've managed to screw something up in the final release.

Note to Spotify: If this behaviour is intentional or unavoidable then PLEASE say so on the Google Play store page so that people can plan their upgrade.

I'm not at home right now so I'm not risking re-downloading anything until I have good Wi-Fi access. If it does just perform a quick re-authentication on your offline content that's great, but it's also something that Spotify should make clear in large letters on the Google Play page.

This one seems to be the same. I've just "re-downloaded" a 60 song playlist and it used about 3MB of data.

@ agoodpub Try syncing over WiFi if possible to avoid using data.

We know some folks but not all may have to re-download (formerly known as re-sync) their offline content when installing the new app. This is the reason there aren't notes in Google Play or in the blog post.

If this did happen, try the following to ensure you dont have this problem again:

Go to Settings > Apps > Downloaded > Spotify > Uninstall + Clear Cache > Install from Google Play

Re-download your offline playlists over WiFi

My point was that it wasn't downloading the actual song, hence not using a lot of data. Therefore "safe" to do over 3g

Seemed very inconsistent after launching it for the first time and thought I had this issue. Restarted the phone and seems to be OK now though so that's worth a try for anyone that thinks they have lost their lists
