I've been looking for a year or two for a small Android player, something smaller than an iPod Touch, and I saw a Posh Micro X S240 on Amazon. It was apparently released in July of this year, so there's very little info on it.

http://www.poshmobile.com/catalogue/micro-x-s240/

Dimensions are 89 x 47 x 11.6 mm, and the screen size is 2.4 inches. In comparison,the 5ive Z18 is 88 x 48 x 13 according to Amazon, and the screen size is 2.45 inches.

I didn't get the Z18 as I didn't like the design or the price, but I did buy the Posh Micro X and yes it run Spotify just fine.I can see my playlists and scroll through them, search, user the radio stations, etc. I saved one of my playlists to a 32g external SD card and it works fine in online or offline mode. Sound quality is similar to that of my Galaxy S3 but with a little less bass. I was impressed with the sound quality overall, and volume output with the speakers or headphone port was impressive given the size of the device.

Drawbacks:

- the screen is small, of course, since it's a small phone. You don't see much text on the screen.

- the keyboad is VERY small, by far the smallest keyboard I've seen on any device at any point in my life. If you have big fingers you might have a lot of problems with it.

- I installed the oldest version of Spotify I could find. I tried installing a more recent one (but nothing from the past few months as I keep having problems with those) and it wouldn't go past the sign-on screen. Going back to the earliest version I could find solved that problem. It's possible the latest version will work find but I don't want to try.

Below are links to some screenshots taken with a phone that has a horrible camera, so I apologize for the quality and my poor photography skills. First 2 pics show size comparison with other devices I have, and the other pics are of screens on the Posh.

Samsung Galaxy S3 (with case) compared to Posh Micro X S240
http://i.imgur.com/vIWDAKS.jpg

Samsung Galaxy S3 (with case), iPod Touch 4, LG Optimus Zone 2, and Posh Micro X S240
http://i.imgur.com/SbqrGLU.jpg

Playlists
http://postimg.org/image/j2vmpl98t/

Radio Feature
http://i.imgur.com/lYmfvCp.jpg

Search results
http://i.imgur.com/bWmk6bg.jpg

Reeeeeeally tiny keyboard
http://i.imgur.com/VqenCWf.jpg

This has been asked before but not for a couple of years and I hope the answer jhas changed.

Anyway....what's the SMALLEST player I can use with Spotify offline playlists? I currently go running with my iPod nano 6th gen which is a perfect size but of course won't support Spotify.

What are my options? Looking at the 5ive Z18 - does that work OK with Spotify? What else is there?

Hi!

There's a lot of choices on android out there! I would recommend you to just go to the nearest store to buy what you need. This is another device, http://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/walkman/nw-zx2 it runs on android with hi-res quality music. The smartphone you mentioned is OK, but 900mah battery is not for music. Try another thing. I recommend Sony's Android powered walkman.

Hope this helps 🙂

Thanks. That walkman looks interesting but it's quite a lot larger than I had in mind. Also it's nearly a thousand pounds.

How long would a 900 mah battery last playing music?

900 mah can just be a few hours or minutes. I dont know. For music, 900 mah is not enough. try 1500 mah. What size do you like? I will try to help you find one. I'm a bit good at this 😄

It's just that my iPod nano has a battery capacity of 400 mah and it is supposed to last for 24 hours of playback (never tested that but it's certainly over 10). Even if it's less efficient, I assumed that 900 would last a day or so.

Longest races I currently enter are 12 hours so that would probably do.

I should add that the info on the Posh says it can't use an sd card bigger than 32gb. I am using a 64gb card in my Posh and so far have had no problems. Many phones I've bought list 16gb or 32gb as the max card size but I've always had success using larger cards.

Another drawback: the phone comes with a micro USB cable that has an extended connector (the metallic part). This is a drawback because the longer connector is pretty much required. The charging port is so far into the phone that I had a hard time finding a USB cable at the house that fit the phone (left the original cable at work accidentally). I tried a few regular micro USB cables at work and around a dozen at home. None stayed in the phone except for one that was very loose, and I had to position the phone just right so the cable wouldn't fall out. The cable they send you works fine, but you may want to get second cable with an extended connector.

I'd edit my above post to include this info but every time I edit a post I end up with a bunch of code in my post.
