Android Lock screen player not working

I have an HTC sensation 4G on Tmobile with the newest release of official firmware. I can not get the lock screen player to work on my android phone. I have power amp on the same phone, and whenever I have something playing, pressing the top screen wake up botton wakes up the phone and shows the power amp lockscreen player.

The HTC one also works fine whenever I am playing music. I don't use it, but I tried to make sure the lockscreen wasn't missbehaving for all applications.

I have tried the following to fix the issue:

1. Updating to the most recent update from yesterday (June 18, 2012, was it?)

2. Uninstalling and reinstalling the application

3. Clearing the app data

4. Reformatting the phone to the factory default and then reinstalling the most recent version from the market.

Some times when I try to unlock the phone, it looks like it wants to open the spotify lockscreen and goes black for one second before reverting to the regular circular interface HTC sense default lockscreen. The spotify app pops up in the top of the notification bar at the same time and then goes away.

I would appreciate some help on the matter.

The lock screen controls only seem to be working for a limited number of phone types. Just for the record: it also doesn't work for my stock HTC Sensation (original) running ICS.
