Chromecast issue with Spotify on Android

From my Galaxy S5 on Verizon using Android 5.0 Spotify says it is connected to my Chromecast device but only plays on the phone speakers. Each time I touch Chromecast under "devices" it says connected but it still says playing on phone speakers and does not play on my Chromecast speakers. Youtube and other apps on my phone work fine on my Chromecast. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Are you using the new Chromecast or the original? New Chromecast (2015) supports Spotify straight away however users on the old Chromecast have to wait a few weeks for Google to push out a firmware update to allow connectivity.

So if you are using the old chromecast the Spotify app will detect the Chromecast, but will not be able to properly connect just yet.

My Chromecast updated to the new firmware a few days ago. The problem I'm having is that spotify only detects my Chromecast when my WiFi is off. As soon as I turn WiFi on then it doesn't show up at all. Does anyone have any suggestions please
