EQ Malfunction on android app

I am expierncing a issue with the Spotify app on android my system is configured as follows

Device: ONE Plus: One

Android Version: 5.1.1

Spotify App version:4.4.0.1008

all internal and external EQ's are turned off

volume leveling has been turned off

issue has been tested with rocket player and stock android music app, isue only occurs with playback from spotify

the issue presents itself aproximatly 20 to 30 seconds into listening, whenever low frequencies ~200 hz and below are in the audio track, the application will suddenly level the volume on the track greatly reducing the lower frequency volumes to the point of them being inaudible. any ideas on what may be causing this?
